Why Did I Become A Life Coach?

7/12/24

There seems to be this view that all life coaches are a bunch of scam artists taking advantage of vulnerable people. They’re grouped in with the MLM crowd and I guess I can understand why. You see this super motivational, charismatic, larger than life personality saying “you can do it!” and then require a membership to their exclusive club of wannabe-entrepreneurs making 40k a month (don’t worry you’ll be making 80k a month anyway). It makes sense then that life coaches aren’t seen in the most trustworthy or reliable light. I can’t speak for everyone, so I won’t! But I do think it’s important to talk personally about how my roots influenced me to enter this sphere.

My personal journey:

I knew at the beginning of my self-development journey that I wanted to help others with their own development, I just didn’t know how or what that meant. I was in school for Psychology so I could become a therapist after seeing how much having one helped me. I quickly became disillusioned with the field and decided not to continue higher education anymore. I thought perhaps whatever I did in my career would scratch that itch of giving my insight to others. Nah… not really. I did seem to always get promoted to “trainer” positions because of my patience and communication skills, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I came to a realization earlier this year that these retail/customer service/hospitality jobs didn’t hire me with a consultation contract so there’s no reason for me to get upset that my insight wasn’t appreciated. And that’s totally fine! I was also totally overworked and burnt out from my job so I began looking into other ways to gain fulfillment. As it turns out, I’m now an oldhead in the men’s self-development sphere! I know logically that I’m not much older than many of the guys that are starting a self-development journey, but I’ve been in the space for a very long time and I’ve taken notes throughout the years. I now feel confident enough to pass on my knowledge to those who seek it. I’m also at an age where I do have some wisdom to pass on to the young men of today. I’m not a grizzled old mentor, but I’ve got some arthritis here and there. You know, normal late 20's stuff.

Transparency:

I can provide meaningful insight in fashion, dating, sex, self-healing, fitness, charisma, leadership, and even stoicism. Despite what my fashion tells you, I have no interest in trying to sell you crypto. I’m actually a master of pissing off pyramid schemers by not actually caring about any of the stuff they think I should care about. “Do you really want to spend your life answering to a boss or do you want financial freedom so you can travel the world?” Good point, why don’t you take all that financial freedom talk and throw it in my suggestions box over there? It’s a big black bin that gets picked up every Friday. In all seriousness, I’m not the best resource if you’re looking for financial help. I’m not rich, I’m not perfect, and I’m not claiming to cure your PTSD. If what we work on helps your condition or makes you stinkin’ rich, that’s great! You can claim that, but I won’t. I’m here to provide insight and support in the best way I know how. Therapists and life coaches can absolutely work in tandem. I mention leadership and charisma as specific focuses in my bio because I personally have noticed substantial improvements in them as I’ve worked on “The 8 Areas of Attack.” If you would like extra support, we can work specifically to build your own brands of charisma and leadership.

Hopefully this gives you some perspective into why I do what I do. I’d like to think it’s not rooted in money or fame. Right now each session will cost you a couple of Chipotle burritos but as time goes on I’d also like to increase my rate to reflect my experience.
